Six months ago today, Steve led the very first Solidarity Sing Along in the Capitol. Since then, we have held 153 sing alongs, every single weekday, have printed thousands of song books, and have welcomed thousands of people into the Capitol to make their voices heard.
We’ve been visited by senators and mayors and famous musicians. People from around the world and around the country have come to sing with us. We’ve been featured in press local and world-wide, from the Isthmus to the New York Times to Le Monde.
We’ve had our ups and we’ve had our downs. We’ve been criticized and we’ve been praised. Supporters and curious passers-by and counter-protesters have all had their effect on us. But through it all, we’ve kept singing. It has been an incredible journey. And it’s not over.
Thank you to Steve and WNPJ for getting us started and keeping us going. Thank you to the individuals and businesses and organizations that have donated to ensure that we can continue. Thank you to all the incredible musicians who come and play with us. Thank you to all the people who have been watching and supporting from afar. But most of all, thank you to every single person who has come out to sing with us. Without voices, there is no song.
Peace and solidarity.
I wonder where we’ll be six months from now?
