Rick Perry’s Thought Bubble Revealed

By Molly Belt

Texas Governor, and potential Republican Presidential candidate, Rick Perry spoke to a crowd of evangelicals at a prayer rally today. These are some of the solemn words he spoke to the faithful:

“Father, our heart breaks for America. We see discord at home. We see fear in the marketplace. We see anger in the halls of government and, as a nation, we have forgotten who made us, who protects us, who blesses us. We pray for our nation’s leaders, Lord, for parents, for pastors, for the generals, for governors, that you would inspire them in these difficult times. Father, we pray for our president, that you would impart your wisdom upon him, that you would protect his family.”

Sadly, those at the rally were not able to see the thought bubble above Perry’s head as he spoke, and thus missed out on the important subtext of the speech. Fortunately, I was able to procure a video in which the thought bubble appears and have transcribed it below:

“Father, our heart breaks for America. We see those who still have homes. We see fear in AIG, GE, big oil and other members of the marketplace who don’t want to pay their fair share of taxes. We see anger in the halls of government that the Tea Party has not yet drowned government in a bathtub, destroying the safety net that the über rich will never need. As a nation, we have forgotten the job creators who created jobs for us only to send them offshore, we want to forget the laws that protect the workers we have left, and remember the plutocrats who will bless us, when our country looks as it did when Dickens’ Tiny Tim uttered those immortal words, “God bless us, every one!”

“We pray for the nation’s leaders, Lord, that they will one day soon all be members of the Tea Party. For parents, that they will send their children to private or charter schools so we can end the pestilence that is public education. For pastors, that they will renounce their belief in the heretical notion of science and embrace the truth of creationism…and a flat earth. For the generals, that they will continue to fight unnecessary wars so that we may enrich the private contractors who donate to Republicans. For governors, that You will inspire them in this difficult time to emulate Scott Walker of Wisconsin and view their swearing in as a coronation, proceeding immediately to turning back their states 50 years and stripping the little people of the scourge of rights and protections. Father, we pray for our president, that you would impart Your wisdom on him, making him rewrite the Constitution so that we are untroubled by that pesky little ‘separation of church and state’ clause, (oh, and that he’s a one term president), and that You will protect his family as so many in this great country are enraged and that there are black people living in our White House.”
